The manufacturing and technical skills gap continues to grow in the United States and North America.  Fifty percent of the current maintenance workforce is projected to retire within 5 years adding to the diminishing skills inventory and decreasing the ability of companies to compete globally.

Where will the resources with the basic skills come from to backfill this gap in skills? 

Community Colleges can be an excellent low cost source for these training needs, but many need to refocus on the needs of local industry rather than academic measures.  How can we improve the performance, effectiveness and efficiency of the industries within our communities through these technical training programs?
